Pro Hooper Jared Bynum Visits Ness Basketball Camp to Share His Story and Inspire the Next Generation
Yesterday, Ness Basketball Summer Camp welcomed a special guest whose basketball journey is a powerful testament to grit, heart, and relentless work ethic. Jared Bynum, a Georgetown Prep alum, former standout at St. Joseph’s, Providence, and Stanford, and now a professional basketball player, returned to familiar territory to pour into the next generation of young hoopers.
For our campers—many of whom are just beginning their basketball journey—hearing Jared’s story firsthand was like getting a playbook for success both on and off the court.
It All Started With His Dad
Jared opened up about how his love for the game began—watching his father play in local men's leagues leagues and tournaments. Those early memories planted a seed that grew into something special. “I remember being a little kid, just watching my dad hoop. That’s what made me fall in love with the game,” he told the campers.
It was a powerful reminder that passion often starts close to home—and that no moment is too small to spark something big.
A Full-Circle Moment at Camp
Jared’s visit to Ness Basketball also held a personal connection. He shared that years ago, he met Coach Ness at a summer camp, where Coach Ness was a counselor and he was a camper.
“Jared was the best player in camp even though he was one of the smallest and it came down to his work ethic and approach to the game, which hasn't changed since then,” Coach Ness said. “Having him stop by is about long-term development and surrounding kids with mentors who’ve walked the path.”

How a Smaller Guard Made a Big Impact
One of the most valuable parts of Jared’s visit was his honest advice for smaller players. Standing at 5’10”, Jared didn’t let height stop him from making a major impact in the Big East and beyond. He spoke about mastering pace, angles, decision-making, and being relentlessly competitive—traits he said are essential for smaller guards to dominate.
He even brought a few campers up to demonstrate live drills, showing how he sharpens his own skills—emphasizing that repetition, detail, and intensity are what separate good from great.
Q&A, 1-on-1 Battles, and Autographs
After his talk, Jared opened the floor for a Q&A session. Campers asked everything from how he handled tough losses to what it takes to play at the next level. His answers were real, practical, and packed with wisdom.
Before heading out for his second workout of the day, Jared stuck around to play 1-on-1 with several campers, sign autographs, and take photos—leaving every player in the gym feeling motivated and seen.
